Time to take another look at Boston’s Civil War Monument?

Here is an editorial I submitted to the Boston Globe in August, 2017.  They didn’t publish it!

I suggested, following the poet Robert Lowell, that the Latin inscription on the 1897 Augustus Saint-Gaudens Memorial to Robert Gould Shaw and the Massachusetts Fifty-Fourth Regiment in the Boston Common across from the Statehouse be altered, changing the singular relinquit to the plural, and more inclusive, relinquunt.
